Maryland Democrats: Uniting...
Maryland Democrats: Uniting to Ensure Historic Change
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
“We are strong enough to embrace
competing passions and then unite with
purpose...”
A Statement from
Michael Cryor, Chair of the Maryland
Democratic Party
“Now that the
Democratic presidential primary has come to an
end, we will move quickly to do what Democrats
do – unify and move forward together. While
this has been an exhausting
and hard fought campaign, it has been both
profound and historic. Both Sen. Obama and Sen.
Clinton have achieved the unthinkable; moving
America
closer to its ideals. However, it is now time
to focus our attention on the new challenge
ahead – the battle in November to reclaim the
White House.
This primary has tested Democrats like
never before. As a result we’ve shattered
virtually all the records. In Maryland over
880,000 Democrats voted in our primary
election; nearly 300,000 more than ever before.
Many of those voters are young people, new to
the voting booth and inspired to take part in
historic change. Others had lost interest in
the political process but found it restored
through the engaging, energizing experience of
this primary season.
We are the Maryland Democratic Party.
We are strong enough to embrace competing
passions and then unite with purpose to pursue
our common objectives. This year we look
forward to joining with Independents and
Republicans – as Democrats have in states all
across the country – who also seek a better day
in America.
We have the opportunity to write more history
in November. We will travel that path towards a
better Maryland and a greater
America
together, increasing our party’s proven
strength and energy along the
way.
Maryland
will not only show America
how “change” is done at the top, we will stay
focused on change right here at home. Our unity
will be the key to taking back two seats in
Congress we haven’t held in a while. Inspired
Democrats - unified with Independents and
Republicans – will help Frank Kratovil and
Jennifer Dougherty solidify an already strong
and effective Maryland Congressional Delegation
by adding Maryland’s
First and Sixth Districts to the “D” column.
This is a high mountain to climb, but
the stakes for Maryland and
America
are equally high. Together we will accomplish
what has never been done
before.”
