Throw out the Record Books, the “Chesapeake Primary” will Matter

Democratic Candidates & Spirit of Change will Dominate February 12th Vote

Annapolis, MD: Saturday's record breaking Democratic voter turnout in South Carolina sets the stage for an exciting primary here in Maryland on February 12th.  The previous record for Maryland Democratic voter turnout during a Presidential Primary is 592,000 in 1976. In recent presidential primary elections the nominations were no longer in doubt by the time Maryland’s voters went to the polls. 470,000 Democrats voted in 2004 and 502,000 voted in 2000.

A statement from Michael Cryor, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party:

"We fully anticipate that Maryland voters will break all Primary Election records.

With each passing primary, Maryland becomes more relevant in the process. Democrats around the country are demanding change, and Maryland Democrats are predicted to have the exact same expectations.

We believe one million Maryland Democrats will go to the polls on February 12th. Clearly, we have not seen the political stars align like this in many years. It’s been a long time since this sort of energy has swept the nation, and Maryland will have an important contribution to make in helping to determine who will be our next president.

We can’t predict who will win the Maryland presidential primary but one thing is for sure; Maryland will join the rest of America in declaring that a ‘third Bush-like term’ in the White House is unacceptable.”
